PICTURE PERFECT

The newest beauty brand to hit our virtual shelves is Loving Tan, and let's just say, we are loving it! We thought we'd show you it's super powers in action, and let the bronzing do the talking.

Loving Tan Picture Perfect Instant Body Makeup gives you no excuse not to say yes to last minute invitations for a night out. The airbrush velvety lotion will give you an instant sun kissed natural glow quicker than you can say "what should I wear" and dries in just 60 seconds so there is no waiting before you can slip into your party dress.

For those who haven't taken the leap of faith into the fake tanning world, Picture Perfect is a great starting point as it mimics your skins natural radiance and you can use sparingly or layer for a deeper colour. There is also three shades to take your pick from: Medium, Dark and Ultra Dark.

Most of us wear makeup to cover imperfections on our face and Picture Perfect does the same for our body by hiding veins, scars, stretch marks or even dreaded fading tan, giving you instant confidence!

Once you try Picture Perfect and realise you can't leave the house without it, you will be happy to know you don't have to apply it everyday because it lasts up to 3 days, but can also easily be removed with warm soapy water and a skin polishing glove.

So the proof is in the pudding (slash pictures), you are going to need Picture Perfect if you plan on leaving the house this winter, and lets be honest... everyone looks better with a tan!

P.S we used Picture Perfect Dark for this uber helpful review, perfect for medium to dark skin tones!

STYLE CHALLENGE: THE LOOK-A-LIKES

Brisbane’s most fashionable twins and all round nice girls Maya and Chelsea, otherwise known as The Look-a-likes, came in to BBHQ this week to style some of our most popular pieces.

The challenge was set; the girls had to style: the Casey Anorak, Cable Skirt Burgundy and Stripes.

The girls both styled the Casey Anorak as a casual street look and we soon realised they have quite a similar style, yet we love how they make this work for them and not look too matchy-matchy.

They also reminded us why the Cable Skirt Burgundy is one of our favourite styles this season. Paired with a black top and amazing accessories it really is a must-have!

And if we all didn't have enough Stripes in our wardrobe, here is another reason why we want more! Maya and Chelsea went all-out, suiting up with stripes on stripes!

Thanks for the styling inspo girls!

HOW TO: GET THE PERFECT CURLS

$
0
0
If you are bored with super straight hair or want to perfect your wavy hair then it's time to get curly! Keep reading to see how to create the perfect curl...

We love a beachy wave on our models and we thought it's about time we show you how to achieve this look yourself.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

- A curling wand
- Wide tooth comb
- Hair Spray (lots of)
- Patience and persistence (practice makes perfect remember!)

STEP 1.

Start with freshly washed or day old hair. Whilst you are waiting for your curling iron to heat up, give your hair a comb through to get rid of any tangles.

STEP 2.

Section off the bottom third of your hair and comb through the hair you are about to curl.

STEP 3.

Hold your curling wand vertically and wind a small section around the wand. Hold for 5-10 seconds and release the curl.

STEP 4.

Continue curling small sections and work your way around your head.

STEP 5.

When you have completed each section, apply a generous amount of hairspray. Don't run your fingers through or brush you hair yet, we will get to that soon. You want to let your hair cool in the curl before you style it.

STEP 6.

Section off another layer of your hair and repeat Steps 2-5. When you are curling the hair around your face, make sure to curl it away from your face, that way the curls will sit naturally around your face.

STEP 7.

When you have finished all of your hair, give it another go-over with hairspray. Don't be shy, the more you spray the more volume your hair will have and the better the curls will hold.

STEP 8.

If you are happy with how the curls are sitting then you are all done! If you want softer beachy waves then now is your chance to run your fingers through your hair or use a wide tooth comb to brush through your hair. When you have finished styling your hair give it one more spray of hairspray and you are good to go!

Style Challenge: Dressing On A Budget!

$
0
0
This week we had Prue from a Broke Girls Blog back in our head office to style a shoot on... yep you guessed it, bargain outfits! We all know that looking stylish on a budget is not the easiest task and the thought of bargain hunting often just leaves us feeling depressed with major wardrobe envy (hello Cara Delevingne). Fear not, however, because we are here with Prue and her top tips to help you stay in style without breaking the bank!

Challenge #1: Outfit Under $150

The first challenge was arguable the hardest; as we all know $150 doesn't go very far these days! As Prue is Queen of looking good for less she was up to the challenge and paired our Manhattan Dress with the Therapy Malawi Heels and the Sabotage Shirt to create a bit of attitude! We love how Prue has combined two of our favourite trends (monochrome and tartan of course) to create an edgy look. Wanting something a little more classic? Ditch the shirt and you have a simple and chic cocktail-ready outfit!

Our Tip: When your funds are low a dress is a clever option, and will often cost less than buying a top and bottoms separately!

Challenge #2: Outfit Under $200

For our second challenge, Prue has gone for a fuss-free day time look; pairing the On The Run Jeans White with the Zeppelin Tee and Quay Charlie Sunglasses. One of Prue's favourite trends this season is stripes and we agree that you can't go wrong with a basic black and white striped tee.

Our Tip: If you can't afford to buy a new pair of heels each season (we hear you), a pair of black strappy heels like the Malawi Heels are a classic must-have that will go with just about everything!

Challenge #3: Outfit Under $250

In our last challenge Prue had a bit more cash to splash which is why she opted for the amazing Faux Real Coat! Worn with the Team BB Tank, Dark Night Tights and Therapy Malwai Heels this outfit is small on effort and big on impact!

Our Tip: Black leather-look tights are soooo much cheaper than real leather, will go with just about everything and are comfy too!

We had a bit of a chat to Prue to find out more of her savvy shopping advice:

What are your favourite trends?
I have a worrying obsession with all leopard print, stripes and leather/leather-look. Coming into the cooler months I am excited to be able to layer up all my favourites!

What tips do you have for scoring bargains online?
It's quite simple but I will always start at the sale section... You will be surprised at the treasures you'll find! A great idea is to follow your favourite stores on Facebook and Instagram to stay on top of any upcoming sales or available discount codes. There are also sites that provide discount codes and flash sales and as a student you get to make the most of UniDays (discount code site), which is dangerous... good dangerous.

Do you prefer to splurge on basics or statement pieces?
Basics make up my wardrobe and are definitely one of my favourite things to buy, however if I'm going to splurge it's going to be on something ridiculous like the Faux Real Coat! So definitely statement pieces.

When you're shopping do you think about what you will wear it with or think about price per wear?
Every time I shop I try to imagine the item with things already in my wardrobe. This way you don't end up needing to buy a whole new outfit to go with your new piece of clothing! In saying that, if I am looking at a more expensive piece I think about price per wear and decide whether or not I'll get enough wear out if it vs. the hefty price tag.

So there you have it, keeping on top of the trends without maxing out your credit card is totally achievable! Cause for a celebration? Let's go shopping!!

Make sure you are following Beginning Boutique on Facebook and Instagram to stay in the loop with all of our sales and special offers (we would hate for you to miss out)!

DIY NAILS: OMBRÉ

Here at BB HQ we are obsessed with pretty nails and are especially in love with the Ombré trend. We know that sometimes its not always possible to “get yo’ nails did” by a professional, which is why we thought we would show you how to do it yourself at home  no fancy equipment required!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

1. A minimum of 3 shades of nail polish.
We went with our favourite Kester Black nail polishes in delicious shades of purple
2. Clear nail polish
3. Makeup sponges
4. Nail polish remover
5. Cotton buds or a fine makeup brush
5. Scissors

BEFORE YOU START:

It is important to start any mani make-over with clean and smooth nails. So if yours are not up to scratch (excuse the pun) we recommend giving them a quick file and buff. I have applied a base coat of nail strengthener as mine are prone to breaking (hence the uneven lengths!).

STEP 1:

To start give your nails a base coat by painting them in the lightest shade; we decided to use Fairy Floss by Kester Black. Make sure your base coat is fully dried before continuing on to step number two.

Tip: If you are using contrasting colours such as yellow, pink and green; it is best to use a white coloured base to make each colour stand out without clashing.

STEP 2:

Depending on the size of your make up sponges you may like to cut them into smaller parts so that they are easier to handle (and you have more to use).

Get all of the nail polish colours you are using ready and unscrew the lids. Before you paint the sponge think of how you wan't the ombré to look, as the placement of colours will affect the end result. We have decided to go from light to dark, to achieve this we first paint a line on the sponge with the base colour Fairy Floss followed by Bougainvillea and finally with Tutti Frutti.

STEP 3:

Holding the painted sponge, carefully press down onto your fingernail. Continue sponging onto each finger, when the sponge runs out of colour paint another coat onto the sponge over the original polish. If the sponge becomes sticky throw it away and apply the polish to a new one.

STEP 4:

Apply a second coat to each nail by repeating step 3 to achieve a more vibrant result.
Note: To create a more blended effect you can dab the sponge onto your nail.

STEP 5:

Clean up your finger tips by using Nail Polish remover & the cotton buds. Then finish your nails by applying a clear top coat, this will help blend the colour for a smooth and shiny finish. If you prefer a textured or matt look you can skip this step.

Team BB: Meet Chloe

$

Introducing Chloe, BB’s super stylist and PR Manager who has a penchant for rose gold hardware and an ever-expanding collection of pastel threads.

How long have you worked at Beginning Boutique for?
I have been working at BB for almost 2 years now!

What does your typical day working at BB look like?
I don't think there is such a thing as a typical day for my job, which is one thing I love the most about it! If it's a Monday or a Thursday I am in the office early prepping and styling for our photo shoots. Then it's 3 or 4 hours of working as a stylist with a model and our photographer producing amazing product pictures for our website. My role in PR involves working with bloggers and brands as well as planning events, promotions and looking after our VIP's!

What is your favourite thing about working at BB?
My favourite thing about working at BB is working with like-minded creatives that are passionate about making BB the raddest online store in Australia. We are all under the age of 26 and love our jobs and are passionate about our roles, which contributes to the success of BB.

Have you always wanted to work in the fashion industry?
I have always loved fashion and everyone always told me I should pursue it but I always thought it was super competitive and impossible to get a job so I consider myself very lucky to have gotten a job at BB!

Any advice for someone who wants to work in fashion styling or PR?
I think some sort of study is a great idea. I have just finished a dual degree in Journalism and
Communication and although I did not learn all the practical skills I now use on a daily basis, it gives you a chance to really figure out what you what to do when you finish. You are also encouraged and often required to intern and I believe this is the best way to get experience in the industry. Although you most likely won't be getting paid, the knowledge you will gain is invaluable, and the contacts you make also come in handy down the track. I started working at BB as an intern and have worked my way up to a full-time position that I love!

What is your current favourite trend?
That's a tough one! I think I am going to have to say the pastel coat trend. I absolutely love wearing light and bright colours in winter, as opposed to black. I already have a few pastel coats and have been eying off another… it's a bit of an obsession.

How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is very trend driven and a little bit girly. I am not afraid to wear bright colours and prints but I also often tone it down with staple black and white items, and you can't go wrong with a bit of leopard!

Who is your style icon?
A few of my fav fashionistas are Olivia Palermo, Nicole Richie and Kourtney Kardashian. They all have a bit of a girly side as well as a bit of a boho style that I love.

You always look flawless; do you have a go-to beauty product?
Wow that's a tough one; don't make me pick between my fake tan and my concealer! Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Ultra dark and Mac Pro Longwear Concealer are can't-live-without beauty products of mine.

Where is your favourite Brisbane hangout?
Anywhere with shops! I love going out for breakfast on the weekend's so I am often seen at Tenerife or Bulimba trying a new cafe.

When you’re not working, what will we find you doing?
Shopping, brekky with friends or watching a trashy reality series... don't judge!

What do you like to do to keep healthy?
I do crossfit to keep fit and also to socialise with friends at the same time!

Anything you just can’t stop eating?
Grill'd is my all time fav! I have it at least once a week.

If you were stranded on an island and could only bring 3 things, what would you bring?
Food, sunscreen and a fabulous kaftan!

If you could be a fictional character, who would you be?
Carrie Bradshaw!

Another day, another lookbook!

Last week we shot our newest lookbook with one of our favorite bloggers, Essena O'Neill.

Essena popped in to our West End office on her way home from a relaxing few days in Byron Bay to shoot our newest lookbook.

With a little bit of hair styling, a coat of nail polish and a natural makeup look, we were ready to shoot.

We wandered around our neighbourhood to find the perfect locations including Betty's Espresso and some rundown houses, one with the perfect mystical cat that we tried so very hard to get pictures with!

Although she doesn't like to think of herself as a model, Essena was the perfect muse for this lookbook!

Keep an eye out for the release of this lookbook in the coming weeks.

There are some who find cool and there are some who are born cool – and Ainsley and Ula were born in leather jackets, with insane hair and a penchant for slogan shirts with naughty words on them.

We chatted with our favourite babes from Sticks And Stones Agency about being cool on Instagram, their outfit must-haves and sh*tty movie reviews.

☠ ☠ ☠

ULA, 7 - @ulacoco

Favourite thing to do on the holidays?

Horse riding and playing with my puppy – he’s a fox terrior and his name is Jet. Mine craft is my favourite game to play.

Outfit of choice?

My leather jacket, white and black stripy tights and my Simpsons t-shirt!

Do your friends have Instagram?

Nope they are so behind.

What’s the key to the perfect post?

Having rad hair helps and an awesome tan and the best clothes!

What’s your favourite Instagram post?

Me and my stepsister laying on the grass and the one of my mum and me.

What is your favourite sport?

I like to play netball, I play any position.

AINSLEY - @sticks_and_stones_agency

Um, where is your jacket from?!

My fav PR company sent it to me for a shoot and I haven’t sent it back yet.. haha - it's by Zhivago!

What are your favourite brands?

Definitely Discount Universe and O-Mighty… it changes daily. But they are two brands that I have always loved.

Your go-to outfit when you’re in a rush?

It’s always my white muscle with holes in it, and a bra without underwire for complete comfort. Or a leather jacket and leopard print jeans or plaid pants– I get dressed for Instagram hahaha.

Favourite Instagram-ers?

@fuckcherry and @thefatjewish are the only two that I always go back on – I actually look at them every day. Also @prettypukedood – it’s a little bit offensive haha. And of course @sebastienfougere and @ulacoco ;)

Who decides what you post on Instagram?

It’s a collaboration - either I will have an initial idea and Sebastien will improve on it or I will have to commercialise it.

Your most outrageous Instagram post?

It would be either the Barbie and Ken one reposted from @prettypuke dude but this one might take the cake – ‘carrot boner’ – just doing what bunnies do. The bunny one is my favourite!

What do you love to blog about?

We have done shitty movie reviews. We go Monday night because it’s the quietest and we want to go before cheap Tuesday. It’s now my favourite part of the job. We choose a movie title out of a jar and we go and see that. I start to feel guilty when I criticise people’s art even though I know they are still going to make millions… The reviews are really shit – not necessarily the movie!

Your favourite model you have worked with lately?

Sahara Ray is phenomenal – I could shoot her every day. We did a shoot with her for an LA online mag – ‘Live Fast Mag’ where we did a cool trashy motel shoot. We have behind the scenes polaroids on the blog aka ‘pornoroids’.

What’s happening in the future for Sticks And Stones?

We are definitely doing a YouTube channel next. A lot more videos – a weird film about a beard is coming out very soon – that will be the launch of our YouTube channel. We are going to do ‘live shitty interviews’ – interviewing corporate people as well as awesome people that we love. We’re in LA in November for more photoshoots – an anniversary shoot – something for that but mostly collaborating with photographers.
